SUPER PINK LILIES WITHOUT LEAVES, CALLED NAKED LADIES, seem to have sprung up overnight around San Francisco, here and there on dry grassy hills and roadsides, emerging by their lonesome from rock-hard soil that hasn’t seen rain for three months.
Naked Ladies also remind Miss Jo of the pink parasols she saw last week in Japantown, carried by some Japanese street fashion devotees. Coincidently, the Naked Ladies are native to southern Japan.
Also called Belladona and Magic Lilies, the pink jewels thankfully aren’t growing in Miss Jo’s yard because they’re poisonous and her cats like to nibble.
That’s okay, since Fog City’s own Calla Lillies, which only faded away in June and July, are already poking out of the ground in Miss Jo’s garden, ready to start anew and bloom by Christmas.

and I always think of the naked ladies at the Cathedral. How I loved to say “The naked ladies are out in the Bishop’s Garden!”
Aunt Jo…really love this snap! And your blog is just so beautiful…I received a blog award the other day, and wanted to pass it along to you. Come check it out!
I spent much of this afternoon pulling up that nasty bent sawgrass that DC is so familiar with. We finally got rain yesterday after 2 months sans the wet stuff. Of course, you know that nothing this beautiful grows out here without some thorough watering! Love the Superior Snap!
My mother grew naked ladies back in the 50s. Every time I see them, I am reminded of my childhood summers.
