MISS JO WANTED TO SHARE MORE ABOUT GOING TO HEART, THE MISSION’S latest wine bar and art gallery, which she mentioned in her last post about her artful evening.
It’s a friendly hangout, and she was drawn to the latest exhibit, “Reflections Adrift,” by painter Martin Machado, who calls the Port of San Francisco home.
Machado’s seascapes are displayed on an interior wall running the narrow bar’s length and could be enjoyed from the tall rectangle tables, which are shared and have hooks underneath to stow your gear.
“The artist does a lot of his work while at sea,” the server shared, explaining how Machado allows color washes to spread across canvases as ships pitch and roll, which leave a dynamic, ocean-going footprint.
Miss Jo was thirsty and had a couple $5 ales and her friend sampled $9 by-the-glass California reds—- served in Heart’s utility Mason jar glasses.
Before leaving, they took note of the tempting small-plates menu and stepped into the twilight framing an Edwardian on the corner. The Mission’s sunny rough edges had disappeared.
In view, the Velvet Cantina beckoned for one more springtime libation and some chips & salsa.
